Message from the CEO About the Pool
YMCA Community –
Over the last two weeks, our swimming pool has sustained two separate maintenance issues which have resulted in what we originally intended as a temporary closure of the pool.
After reviewing our finances and potential risks, we have come to the conclusion that our pool must be permanently closed.
Although we did not foresee this shutdown happening at this time, this decision aligns with our anticipated transition out of the current facility. All details of this transition are not yet clearly defined. Please be reassured that it is our intention to offer key programs that align with our mission in a great space that we will be proud to call home. As the transition crystallizes, we will be eager to share exciting news and collaborate with you: our Marietta Family here at the YMCA.
The only aquatics programs that we were able to relocate are the upcoming children’s swim lessons session (February – March) and the Marietta Marlins swim team who will practice three days a week at a pool in Athens. The participants in these programs have been contacted individually.
As a YMCA member, you have access to the Parkersburg YMCA pool at no extra charge. Another option for you is to purchase a membership at the Betsy Mills Club. We expect that there will be many questions and want you to feel comfortable contacting us.
We are optimistic as we look forward to the future, but, in the meantime, we sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you for being part of our Marietta FAMILY YMCA community.
Kerry Jean Waddle
Kerry Jean Waddle named new Y CEO
The Board of Directors of the Marietta Family YMCA is pleased to announce that Kerry Jean Waddle has accepted the position Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective January 1, 2019. Waddle replaces Phil DiCasolo who served as interim CEO since April 2018.
"We are excited to have a dynamic leader who has a history with the Marietta Family YMCA, and who truly believes in the mission of the YMCA," said Rick Smith, chairman of the board and chief volunteer officer. "Kerry Jean has positive working relationships with members of our community, and we are delighted to welcome her ideas and visionary thinking to our business."
Waddle's previous work includes successfully serving as a fitness and sports director at Kettering Fitness Complex in Kettering, Ohio. Since moving to Marietta, she has served at the Marietta Family YMCA as an aerobics instructor, and at Marietta College as an adjunct professor and group fitness instructor.
"There is such a sense of community at the Marietta Family YMCA. It didn't take me long to understand why the word FAMILY is in the name," said Waddle. "It is truly a great place to be with great people around you."
Please join us in welcoming Kerry Jean!
